Support Laboratory Dancers

Laboratory Dancers is an inclusive artist collective that provides Chicago with accessible and affordable dance performance and education. Our movement aesthetic is based in internal sensation and experience, and we strive to engage both the dance world and people who are unfamiliar with dance as an art form. Our company is always expanding and collaborating with other artists; these multimedia partners add depth to our work and broaden our reach to the public. We want to make audiences and participants feel welcome in our laboratory, and riveted inside our artistic projects.

Projects

This season, we are developing three new works, which will ultimately be performed in April 2012 at the Fulton Street Collective in Chicago. Partnering with Sam Hertz, a data whisperer and technology genius, Lab Dance is engineering a technology/dance performance utilizing lasers, sensors and other devices. After experimenting with the codependcy of choreography and technology, we will assimilate a structured 25 minute performance piece. Along with this, Ally Subak and Emily Lukasewski will each choreograph a new work to present at Fulton St.

Dance Classes at Rumble Arts Center

Laboratory Dancers was motivated by the lack of affordable dance classes in Chicago to offer a donation-only, weekly class that is open to all. The "modern" technique class, offered at Rumble Arts Center for the past two years, is taught by a rotating group of company members. The internal sensation and experience-based movement encourages exploration, which both helps each student develop individual artistry, and builds upon Laboratory Dancers' movement vocabulary.
